These special classes for pre-schoolers will develop a broad range of dance and movement skills incorporating the following components: music awareness, play using creative imagination, dance steps – focusing on body awareness, flexibility, posture, and poise. The class leads the students naturally into the further study of ballet and other forms of dance.
Ballet is the basis for all dance programs and all children-entering dance are encouraged to participate in this program. Ballet is a physical art form that teaches musical awareness, body co-ordination, mental quickness, personal confidence, and self-discipline. Elevate Dance will follow the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus from the Pre-Primary to Advanced levels. Students may be entered for examinations at the discretion of the Instructor. While set work will be emphasized in grade work, a portion of the lesson will be devoted to the development of the students’ creative ability and musicality.
Contemporary dance borrows from jazz, ballet, funk, social dance styles and many modern dance styles of the 20th century. Contemporary dance encourages natural, spontaneous movement and personal interpretation. It focuses on self-expression, awareness of space and body movement, use of body weight, efficiency of muscle use and safe body alignment. Classes start with a comprehensive warm-up and gradually build up to more elaborate dance routines.
Tap combines the rhythms or footwork with the elements of other forms of dance. From the days of Gene Kelly to present day, tap has been woven into many forms of entertainment. A fast-moving, fun class that focuses on developing rhythm, coordination and musicality. Elevate Dance will follow the Canadian Dance Teachers Association (CDTA) training syllabus and the varying styles of tap will be integrated at the discretion of the faculty member.
Hip-hop is a dance style, usually danced to hip-hop music, that evolved from the hip-hop culture. The first dance associated with hip-hop was break dancing. While breakdancing consists primarily of moves executed close to the ground, the majority of hip-hop moves are performed standing up. Hip Hop dance classes can be called lots of different things. ‘Hip Hop’ is a cover-all term for modern Street dance, so your lesson will draw inspiration from many Street dancing styles, old and new.
Acro (acrobatics/tumbling) is centered on fundamental acrobatic technique to increase flexibility, strength, balance, coordination, timing, body awareness, self-discipline, and confidence. Classes focus on building a strong technical
foundation. Students will learn many tricks including handstands, cartwheels, front and back walkovers, and later on advanced tricks to use in her dance choreography.
A high-energy dance form that will offer children of all ages an exciting way to enjoy the benefits and discipline of dance training. The classes are broken down to include a warm-up, cross-floor work and technique, ending with choreography set to contemporary music.Elevate Dance will follow the Canadian Dance Teachers Association (CDTA) training syllabus and the varying styles of jazz will be integrated at the discretion of the faculty member.
PARENTS & TOTS
This interactive creative movement class is designed to allow parents to assist the very youngest movers through their first dance class experience! This dance class focuses on developing hand and eye coordination, balance, rhythm, musicality and flexibility. A parent and child interaction allows children to feel comfortable in a structured classroom atmosphere and prepares them for dance classes in the future.
Lyrical dance is a fusion of Ballet and Jazz techniques. Lyrical dance uses motion to interpret music and express emotion. Lyrical dance is passionate and emotional.
Our Performance Company is a dance company for dancers aged 7 – 14 who are looking for an outlet for training and performing with a highly dedicated and talented group of dancers. Performance Company focuses on choreography & performance opportunities while working with many choreographers in a variety of dance styles. All company members are required and encouraged to continue training in other classes - all members must be enrolled in (at least) two of the following EDC classes: Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Modern or Contemporary. The company will work on technique, endurance, strength and showmanship during our weekly rehearsals. The company will travel to JUMP Vancouver (November, 2019) and will also compete in 3 local festival/competitions throughout the dance season.
